Set on six acres, the Ashland Mountain
House offers plenty of space for
exploring. In the morning tall black locust trees shade the flower garden
along the side of the house. Here you’ll find oakleaf hydrangea, shrub
roses, clematis, and redtwig dogwood.
The organic vegetable garden is right at hand and you’re welcome to help yourself to
cherry tomatoes, strawberries and baby green beans. In
summer, the lavender blooms and wild blackberries ripen. In early fall,
you can pick tasty little apples or gather pears and walnuts from
the old fruit trees. We’re hoping that the flock of chickens will soon be able to keep
us in eggs, as long as our Jack Russell terrier doesn’t act on his darker impulses.
The hillside behind the house is dotted with grassy areas between wild rose bushes and
groves of oak trees.
The views are wonderful from every location, whether you’re looking uphill to the
mountainside or across the valley floor to the wooded ridges that face us. Watch the sky,
listen to the wild birds, and enjoy being away.
