Stretching back to the gold rush, the
history of the Mountain House is deep in stories:
pioneers sheltering inside during battles with the Indians,
wedding celebrations that lasted for days, and travelers on the California/Oregon trail
tumbling out of stagecoaches to eat huge, hurried meals before being rushed back
onboard for the next leg of their trip.
The oldest building in Southern Oregon, the Mountain
House remained in the hands of the Barron family for over a century. The story of this property,
as it evolved from pioneer inn to successful ranch, offers a glimpse of Oregon’s past.
